ABOUT THIS WEBSITE

This website was created as a final research project, by Kira Sandiford (a senior studio art major) for a course at Kalamazoo College in the fall term of 2014. The course was ARTX224: Art Since 1945 taught by Dr. Christine Hahn. This website is intended to act as a resource for those interested in the work of Drury Brennan, and the content does not necessarly represent the ideas or beliefs of Brennan himself. All quotations attributed to Brennan are from email interviews conducted by Kira Sandiford in October and November of 2014. The analysis provided on the collections of work is original content by Sandiford, unless otherwise quoted.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

“Painting, sculpture, architecture, performance, and installation art from approximately 1945 to the present day. The emphasis will be on examining the visual arts of this period from both a formal and socio-historical standpoint, using primary texts such as artist manifestos and the writings of critics to help guide an understanding of the visual. In the process, we will seek to better understand how the terms "modern," "postmodern," and "global," were expressed, evaluated, defined and shaped in the visual arts during the latter half of the 20th century” (Kalamazoo College Course Catalog)
