PHOTOGRAPHY
Although it is no longer the center of his art career, photography is still a key element in Brennan’s artistic explorations. Brennan was first exposed to photography while in high school and his style was further developed in college and while working as an editor for Flaunt Magazine in LA. His calligraphy work captures words and thoughts in a similar way that a camera captures moments. His photographs range from powerful expressions of gender and identity, to typology studies of structure, architecture and urban spaces.
"When we take a picture, when we look at a picture we are actually seeing the energy that a photographer is capable of producing, for if the energy he or she produces is weak or ambiguous or unclear, the photographs will reflect as such. As well the photographers ability to transform, to translate, to transcend. The light is not so much through the camera as in the frame, the light is not so much in the subject as the act. Strive to be open. All photographers should listen to the frame, the frame shouldn’t listen to them. Photography should give instructions on how to transcend, not reflect. "
